The sector is devoted to the chemical analyses of technologically critical elements and pollutants. In this research field, the sector develops primary analytical techniques to certify reference materials used to determine technologically critical elements and contaminants (e.g. rare-earth elements, antimony, etc.) contained in municipal waste.

This activity aligns with the Focal Point of the INRIM ten-year vision document "Monitoring the environment and supporting the development of clean technologies".
