From October 27 to October 30, 2026, INRiM will host the first edition of the It-fab Hands-on School on Micro and Nano Fabrication, the school promoted by the national It-fab network dedicated to micro- and nanofabrication technologies.
It-fab is the Italian network of cleanrooms for micro- and nanofabrication hosted by Public Research Organizations and Universities, established to promote scientific collaboration, shared access to infrastructures, and the development of expertise in a strategic field such as the fabrication of micro- and nano-devices supporting microelectronics, photonics, quantum technologies, and advanced materials.
Starting from 2026, a school will be launched that, alongside in-person theoretical lectures, includes hands-on practical experience inside a micro- and nanofabrication cleanroom.
The school will rotate among the different nodes of the It-fab network and, for this first edition, it will take place at INRiM, leveraging the capabilities of the PiQuET – Piemonte Quantum Enabling Technologies infrastructure.
During the three-and-a-half-day intensive program, participants will explore the main micro- and nanofabrication techniques, including:
- Optical, electron-beam and ion-beam lithography;
- CVD and PVD deposition techniques;
- Etching;
- Packaging;
- Material and device characterization.
Special attention will also be dedicated to the strategic role of cleanrooms within the global semiconductor market and to the competitive advantage represented by public research infrastructures.
Registrations are open until September 15.
Participants may register in one of the following two formats:
- In-person participation, including access to all lectures and hands-on cleanroom activities (limited to 18 participants);
- Online participation, including access to the morning lecture sessions.
All information regarding the programme, registration procedure, participation fees, venue and practical arrangements is available on the School website.
