The laboratory realizes and maintains the national standards for resistance, capacitance, and inductance in DC and AC, with traceability to the quantum Hall effect. It develops resistance (down to the microohm range) and impedance scales, and ultra-low DC current standards.
The electrical resistance and impedance laboratories realize and maintain the national standards for electrical resistance (in DC and AC), capacitance, and inductance, with traceability to the quantized Hall resistance in the acoustic frequency range (20 Hz–20 kHz). Their activities focus on realizing the ohm through the quantum Hall effect in semiconductor and graphene samples, developing resistance standards and scales down to the micro-ohm range using resistance bridges, and performing AC measurements of the quantum Hall effect with transfer to impedance units (henry, farad) through digital impedance bridges that combine simplicity and automation. The laboratory also develops the national standard for direct current in the very low current range (10 fA–1 nA).
