The activity consists in the continued development of skills aimed at the creation, maintenance and development of primary and secondary national standards relating to the sector's competence quantities in accordance with the "CIPM Mutual Recognition Arrangement" (CIPM MRA).

The expertise developed in the metrology of mass, density, hardness, force, gravity, flow rate, pressure, vibration, viscosity, and volume is made available to support research and industrial applications through calibration services, consultancy, and national and international projects. 

For this purpose, periodic national and international measurement comparisons are an integral part of this activity, enabling dissemination and state-of-the-art technology transfer in various application contexts, including industrial process control, environmental monitoring, digital transformation support and sustainable energy conversion.

The sector also actively participates in technical committees related to the relevant quantities within the scope of Research and Development, NMI role, and Knowledge Transfer, including BIPM, EURAMET, IMEKO, UNI, and ISO.
