The activity is aimed at the realization and development of systems for the accurate measurement of seismic waves (both body and surface), at the development of new measurement methods for oscillatory phenomena on components and structures at the micro and nano scale, and at supporting and ensuring traceability to national gravimetric networks, in collaboration with INGV.
The main research lines are:
- Calibration and metrological characterization of seismometers and geophones in the ultralow frequency range (0.01 Hz to 1 Hz) for applications in geophysics and seismology and to support the development of the "Global Seismographic Network"
- Calibration and metrological characterization system for cantilevers applied for AFM and FFM, to define the flexural and torsional spring constants, in the frequency range between 10 kHz and 12 MHz.
Absolute measurement of local gravity acceleration with uncertainty down to 1.1E-7 m/s2 for the development of the Italian Fiducial Gravimetric Network, the International Terrestrial Gravity Reference Frame/System (ITGRF/ITGRS) coordinated by the International Association of Geodesy (IAG). Observations are carried out using ballistic/interferometric absolute gravimeters, ensuring high metrological stability and traceability to international standards.
The results support geodetic and geophysical applications, as well as the monitoring of temporal variations in the gravity field, improving the consistency of height reference systems and global positioning systems.
