In the laboratory, metrological characterization of materials and sources optical properties, linked to their visually perceived quality, and innovative methods for the evaluation of materials and lit environments are researched.

The laboratory features spectro-radiometric instruments (spectrographs and spectrophotometers) to perform characterizations as required by metrological best practices-Hyperspectral analyses are also performed, in order to evaluate visual scenes as a whole, both spectrally and spatially.

At the University of Turin (CIR Dental School) a laboratory dedicated to the characterization of prosthetic material has been realized, with the aim of define their mimesis and appearance features.
