The laboratory develops innovative devices for temperature measurements traceability, systems for calibration of thermometers (also in-situ) and characterization methods for sensors in complex environmental conditions. With a direct link and traceability to primary standards, the laboratory disseminates best practices and develops dedicated procedures for the improvement of thermal measurements for the environment, and in different applications of contact thermometry. The laboratory coordinates as well in-field experiments, to evaluate thermal measurements uncertainties and to support scientific research on thermal properties of the cryosphere.
The laboratory is also equipped with fixed and portable climatic chambers, as well as the EDDIE facility, capable of simulating various atmospheric conditions of temperature pressure and wind.
