Since 2014, INRiM is active in the Arctic, thanks to a long-standing cooperation with CNR-ISP, which manages the “Dirigibile Italia” base at Ny-Ålesund as well as several research infrastructures for chemical and physical environmental parameters. Since 2017 INRiM implemented the “Vaskerilab”, the northernmost metrology laboratory in the world, which allows for high-accuracy calibrations of temperature and atmospheric pressure, and is available to the whole scientific community to ensure traceability and comparability of environmental data. Since 2015, INRiM organized and promotes the yearly Arctic Metrology Workshop, for the discussion and analysis of measurement issues in the Arctic and the diffusion of metrological awareness in the cryosphere sciences community.
