From September 29 to October 3, 2025, the city of Matera hosted the School of Metrology Quantum Timekeepers 2025: Emerging Systems and Architectures for Atomic Clocks”, organized by INRiM at the Casa delle Tecnologie Emergenti.

The school offered advanced training and international scientific exchange, addressing MSc students, PhD candidates, and young researchers interested in the foundations and the most recent developments in optical atomic clocks.

Throughout five days of lectures and laboratories, participants explored a wide range of topics, including optical lattice clocks, multi-ion and nuclear clocks, transportable clocks, international comparisons of frequency standards, superradiance and atomic sources, cavities for optical clocks, and applications of atomic clocks in space technologies.

The program featured lectures from internationally experts such as Kjeld Beeks, José R. Crespo Lopez-Urrutia, Melina Filzinger, Irene Goti, Nils Huntemann, Matthew Jones, Jérôme Lodewyck, Florian Schreck, Mario Siciliani de Cumis, and Alexandra Tofful.

This first edition of the School has strengthened INRiM’s commitment to promoting advanced metrological research and training the next generation of scientists, while establishing Matera as a prominent venue for high-level scientific initiatives.
