INTEM Srl, the first spin-off of INRiM, has been established with the mission of bringing the excellence of metrological research developed at the Institute into the industrial world.
With operational offices in Turin, where research and development activities are concentrated, and in Vimercate, INTEM serves as a bridge between scientific research, technological innovation, and industrial applications. The company operates in the railway and energy sectors, developing advanced solutions for the measurement, diagnostics, and monitoring of complex electrical infrastructures.
The company is founded on the integration of three key elements: INRiM’s metrological expertise, participation in major European research projects, and extensive industrial know-how in measurement technologies and advanced sensing systems. This combination enables the development of instruments and systems characterized by high accuracy, reliability, and metrological traceability.
INTEM particularly leverages the results achieved within the European projects MyRailS, e-TRENY, and ADMIT, transforming scientific knowledge and innovative technologies into practical market solutions. The activities carried out within these projects have led to the development of new methodologies for energy and power quality measurements in railway systems, tools for assessing the energy efficiency of electrical infrastructures, and advanced technologies for network diagnostics and monitoring.
Among the company’s flagship products are SYNCHRON 9000, a high-accuracy comparator for voltage and current measurements; SYNGEN, an arbitrary signal generator designed for the validation of electric power systems; and EMF CAL, a portable platform for the on-site calibration of railway energy measurement systems.
Particular attention is devoted to the railway sector, where INTEM develops innovative solutions for electrical infrastructure monitoring, electric arc detection, hotspot identification, and degradation analysis, contributing to improved safety, reliability, and energy efficiency of railway networks.
"INTEM was created with the goal of transforming the results of metrological research into tangible innovation for industry. Our ambition is to place measurement accuracy and traceability at the service of the energy and digital transition, supporting the development of more efficient, safer, and more sustainable infrastructures," says Domenico Giordano, researcher at INRiM and CEO of INTEM.
By combining research, innovation, and industrial expertise, INTEM aims to become a leading technology partner for companies, infrastructure managers, and operators in the railway and energy sectors, helping bring the value generated by national and European research to the market.
