Laboratorio per la tomografia a risonanza magnetica

The laboratory is dedicated to the development, characterization, and optimization of low-field scanners for magnetic resonance imaging, as well as the generation and measurement of electromagnetic fields in the radiofrequency (RF) range.

The laboratory is equipped with:

  • A low-field (~50 mT) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner based on permanent magnets and optimized for imaging of brain and extremities
  • A tri-axial automatic positioning system for electric and magnetic field probes
  • A software infrastructure for automatic control of experimental activities
  • Electric and magnetic field probes for RF measurements in the time domain and RMS;
  • Bi-directional couplers, power sensors, and attenuators
  • RF amplifiers with power up to 100 W and frequencies up to 400 MHz
  • RF vector synthesizers
  • Various bench instruments such as a vector network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope, DC power supplies, and multimeters
  • A TEM cell for the characterization of electromagnetic field probes
  • Soldering and rework stations
  • A 3D printer for rapid prototyping
  • Calibrated phantoms to test low field scanners
  • ASTM-F2182 standard phantom
