The INRIM Galileo Timing Research Infrastructure was developed in the last 15 years to support the design, development, and test of the timing system of the European Galileo navigation system.

It is composed by different measurement and processing systems, which allow the provision to the European Space Agency of daily products for the validation of the Galileo timing performances, and also the development and test of new timing algorithms and measurements.

The Galileo Timing Research Infrastructure currently works as monitoring unit for the Galileo timing system checking the behaviour of the on-board clocks, the Galileo System Time and the timing information transmitted in the Galileo Navigation Message. In addition, such Infrastructure is also used as an “incubator” or “test bed” to support the development of new algorithms, GNSS payload elements, services or potential concepts, and to validate them through end-to-end simulations and demonstrations.

The Galileo Timing Research Infrastructure is supported by several contracts by the European Space Agency, the European GNSS Agency (GSA), the Horizon 2020 program, and the main space industries as Thales Alenia Space.
