Quantum Optics and Photometry
Paragrafo

The scientific sector of Quantum Optics and Photometry deals with studying the quantum properties of light and the related applications in the fields of metrology, quantum technologies and basic research.

The activities of the sector can be outlined according to the following objectives:

  • Develop new quantum-enhanced measurement protocols aimed at overcoming classical measurement limits in the fields of quantum imaging and quantum sensing.
  • Expand knowledge on the foundations of quantum mechanics also through the development of new measurement paradigms.
  • Study the properties of color centers and their applications in the field of quantum sensing and single photon sources.
  • Carry out research for the standardization of optics and photonic components for quantum technologies.
  • Develop a metrological infrastructure for the characterization of quantum communication systems.
  • Manage the maintenance of the fundamental SI unit Candela and the related derived units through innovative research such as the use of quantitative technologies and the development of single photon sources and detectors.
