Physical Chemistry for One Health
Paragrafo

The department follows the One Health approach, integrating physics and chemistry to address the interconnections between human, animal and environmental health.

It develops reference materials, validated analytical methods and metrologically traceable measurement procedures to investigate food and environmental quality, quantify contaminants, and support the development of standards and regulatory compliance.

In environmental metrology, the sector characterises nanostructured materials and develops methods to identify and quantify micro- and nanoparticles in various matrices, contributing to the study of exposure pathways.

In the field of health, the departement measures contaminants, trace elements and chemical markers, providing data to assess human and animal exposure and identify potential sources of risk.

To support food metrology, the sector investigates nutrients, allergens, contaminants and authenticity markers, contributing to consumer protection and food traceability. Mathematical and statistical algorithms and databases integrate chemical, physical and biological results to assess the factors affecting ecosystem and human health.
