The program, coordinated by the University of Amsterdam, aims to train 15 young doctoral students in the field of optical clocks, devices that currently represent the state of the art in time measurement, thanks to unprecedented precision - up to one part in a quintillion. The doctoral students will be trained at the Universities of Amsterdam, Birmingham, Copenhagen, Toruń, Vienna, and Innsbruck, at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), and at INRiM in Italy, in close collaboration with the industrial partners Menlo Systems (Germany), NKT Photonics (Denmark), and QUBIG (Germany).
An additional eleven associated partners across Europe will also take part in the training network.
