Metrologia per l'ambiente

We develop reliable methods to identify and quantify contaminants in environmental and food matrices and investigate their transfer along the food supply chain.

We characterise microplastics and nanoplastics using Raman and infrared spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, studying their transfer from the environment to food. Reference materials and validated procedures ensure comparable results for assessing human and animal exposure.

We develop rapid spectroscopic methods to assess grape quality and monitor wine evolution in the context of climate change. We study alternative fertilisers derived from circular economy practices and their effects on plant secondary metabolites, as well as PFAS transfer from soil to fruit.

We apply spectroscopic and proteomic methods for the early detection of viral and bacterial infections, including those caused by phytoplasmas, integrating environmental protection, food quality and safety within the One Health approach.
