Dr. Martino Poggio (University of Basilea) will give the seminar “Imaging weak magnetic fields on the nanometer-scale” on May 25, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
The seminar will explore methodologies to overcome the intrinsic limitations of magnetization measurements, focusing on the implementation of non-invasive scanning probe techniques characterized by high spatial resolution.
In particular, two distinct approaches will be presented: the Nano-SQUID on-lever and the nanowire-based MFM.
The presentation will analyze the most recent experimental data obtained on van der Waals magnetic materials, chiral systems, and ferromagnetic topological insulators. This methodological perspective enables accurate mapping of spatial heterogeneity, allowing the microscopic processes governing emerging phenomena in condensed matter physics to be unraveled.
The speaker, Martino Poggio, is an expert in nanomagnetism and nanomechanics. He teaches at the University of Basel and currently serves as Director of the Swiss Nanoscience Institute.
The event will take place in the Library of B Building (ground floor) at the INRiM Campus, Strada delle Cacce 91, Turin.
Participation is possible in two ways:
