INRiM realizes UTC(IT), the national reference time scale, contributes with its atomic clocks and frequency standards  to the international time TAI realized by the  BIPM. The current plan foresees an improvement of the robustness of the Italian time scale, in order to strengthen its operational continuity, and the realization of a time laboratory at the new Matera INRiM site , linked to Torino via GNSS and an optical-fiber link. . A key technical objective is the progressive integration of optical clocks into time-scale generation, improving long-term performance and robustness. The activity also includes the continuous international comparison chain needed for UTC/TAI contributions and for validation of dissemination services.
