Electromagnetic dosimetric allows assessing the exposure of human beings to electromagnetic fields and to quantify the correlated physical effects. The Sector works on this topic from both the experimental and the computational points of view.

Electromagnetic fields (EMF) are used in many areas, including energy and biomedicine. With a mix of experimental and computational approaches, the sector carries out dosimetric analysis to assess the level of human exposure to EMF, evaluating their physical effects, checking compliance with the safety limits and identifying possible mitigation strategies.

The activity also provides data for and supports the development of the relevant technical standards.

In recent years, particular attention has been devoted to human safety both in the medical field, regarding patient and staff exposure, and in the fields of energy transmission and distribution.

A calibration service is provided for instrumentation used to measure electric, magnetic, and electromagnetic fields.
