INRiM announces its participation in the newly launched NMI-Q initiative, an international collaboration aimed at accelerating the development and adoption of quantum technologies through trusted measurements.

NMI-Q brings together the national metrology institutes (NMIs)of the G7 countries and Australia, including NMIA (Australia), NRC (Canada), LNE (France), PTB (Germany), INRiM (Italy), NMIJ (Japan), NPL (United Kingdom), and NIST (United States). The initiative was formalized with the signing of a memorandum of understanding at the LNE premises in Paris on 15 October 2025.

The initiative establishes a common framework to coordinate the development and sharing of measurement best practices, supporting the creation of international standards for quantum technologies. By working closely with industry and academia, NMI-Q seeks to ensure that emerging quantum technologies, ranging from computing and sensing to communication, are based on reliable, comparable, and objective measurement data, fostering innovation, commercialization, and societal impact.
