DESCRIZIONE
The course aims to give a general view of the fundaments of metrology by presenting the international metrological organization, giving basic statistical elements to properly analyze uncertainties, and presenting the new SI and its measurement units. INRIM scientists will give lectures on the various topics proposed.

a. History of the measurement units and the Convention of the meter
b. BIPM, regional organizations, MRA
2. Uncertainty of measurements: GUM, type of uncertainties, criteria for expression of uncertainties, basic mathematical tools for proper use of uncertainties (6 hours)
3. The new SI: the role of fundamental physical constants (22 hours)
Description of the SI units and their practical realizations:
a. Atomic clocks
b. Time scale and GNSS
c. Dimensional measurements
d. Electrical units
e. The Boltzmann constant and the temperature
f. Photometry, radiometry: counting photons
g. Avogadro and Planck constants for the kg realization
h. The mole, the amount of substance unit: from the redefinition to the metrological applications in chemistry
