PhD in METROLOGY



Politecnico of Torino and INRIM are jointly proposing a PhD in Metrology aiming at offering advanced education in all fields of measurements, from cutting-edge frontiers of science to the challenges of a changing society.

Prof. Massimo Inguscio

Scientific Council:
Professors and Researchers from Politecnico of Torino, INRIM, and a host of experts in metrology emerging fields coming from international institutions and industries.

Research fields:
from quantum physics for primary standards realization to nanotechnology for novel measurement devices, from fundamental constants to space metrology, to enabling technology for food certification, safety and efficacy of healthcare, as well as the grand challenges of energy and environment.

Course Structure:
the PhD programme lasts 3 years and includes training courses, an annual evaluation, preparation of a doctoral research thesis, and a final exam.

Course admission:
candidates undergo a competitive admission process and the successful candidates can receive a 3 year scholarship. A Master of Science degree is required and a certificate of competence in English is mandatory.

Future Prospects: the students are prepared for a career in the university, in international research centres and industries. The student research activity is often included in EU and international projects such as those belonging to the European Metrology Programme for Innovation and Research (EMPIR).

Expected schedule:
Since 2016, the call for admission is divided into two separate sessions: the spring session and the summer session. The application must be submitted on:
   February 15, 2016 for the spring session
   May 10, 2016 for the summer session (the apply will open on April 12, 2016)
Course start in Nov 2016 but the winners of an ordinary position in the spring session receive a grant for pre-doctoral research.
